I had a great time hanging out with Kaiya in this birthday portrait session. She turned 11 just two days after our session. She told me all about her birthday party plans, her new birthday iPod, and explained the plot of Frozen to me (which just happens to be her current favorite movie). I haven't seen the movie yet, my kids are still a bit too young to be hip to the new releases, we are more into Sid the Science Kid, and The Cat in the Hat over here.
We session took place in Scappoose, Oregon, which just happens to be my hometown. The town has definitely changed a lot since I was a kid. It isn't quite as rural as it used to be; there are no longer fields of grazing cows in the middle of the town. Nor is the smell of sauerkraut wafting about (which I am fine with! I hated having to smell it while enjoying my recess time in elementary school). However, the Sauerkraut Festival is still an annual tradition. Yep, that's right. I grew up in a town that celebrated Sauerkraut. You could even get Sauerkraut Ice-cream at the festival.
I could keep listing all the things that have changed since I was a kid, but then I fear this post will become even more rambling than usual. So, I will just leave you to enjoy these fun portraits of Kaiya, days away from becoming 11.
